Red Apollo

Parnassius apollo

Description:

Papilionidae, Parnassiinae, Parnassius apollo, Lötschberg Südrampe, Canton of Valais, Switzerland

Habitat:

Open, dry and rocky alpine area from 1000 up to 2400 m asl, not in forests.

Notes:

I waited 45 years to see one of these! As children we played a WWF game where I saw it the first time. It is still strongly protected and vulnerable in Europe.
