The ring-billed gull was spotted on the beach amongst terns and other gulls. I thought these gulls were on the large side until I saw the herring gull seen in http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/853....

The ring-billed gull is protected in the USA under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
