Bighorn sheep

Ovis canadensis

Description:

The remains of a bighorn sheep I found just outside the town of Cadomin, AB.

Habitat:

Mountains and foothills

Notes:

While walking down an abandoned rail line with my classmates, I noticed what looked like a fungus or mushroom growing in a strange curl. It turned out to be much more interesting on a closer look. Wildlife officials in Hinton, AB said it was likely a cougar kill from some time in spring, 2011.
