Brown Headed Cowbird

Molothrus ater

Description:

A robin sized black bird with a brown head and neck. The bill is relatively heavy looking, resembling a larger sparrow beak.

Notes:

The cowbirds are nest parasites, laying their eggs in the nests of songbirds. They are called cowbirds because the adults follow migrating ungulates such as cows or American bison, partially explaining the need for nest parisitism.
