Shield-backed Bug

Pachycoris klugii

Description:

Large bug of about 2.5cm from head to tip of the abdomen. Glossy black with very conspicuous bright orange spots. The colours probably indicate that it's distasteful or even poisonous. The nymphs (picture #3) are almost circular in shape and a striking metallic green/blue.

Habitat:

Semi-arid region in El Cimatario nature park, just outside Queretaro.
