Shield-backed Katydid

Tettigoniinae ssp.

Description:

This is among one of the larger insects I have observed - nearly 3 inches, possibly longer with the ovipositor. Certain species of Shield-backed Katydids are predators, while others feed on plant material and dead insects.

Habitat:

Spotted at night on the edge of a hammock mangrove forest.
