Smooth Snake

Coronella austriaca

Description:

Small brown non-venomous snake with spots on its back, 20-25 cm long, they can grow to be 90 cm or more and live for up to 25 years. Often mistaken for the venomous european adder. The smooth snake has round pupils while the european adder got vertical pupils and the european adder is easiest to recognize on its zig-zag pattern on its back.

Habitat:

Sunny, rocky, dry open area close to mixed forest.

Notes:

On the national redlist of Norway as NT(near threatened).
