Description:

Sneaking around in the back yard this large caterpillar looked like old leather with several sets of different coloured horns. About 45mm long.

Habitat:

Under a large hakea in an outer urban back yard.

Notes:

The hakea tree was the clue to an ID here. Oenochroma vinaria also has one common name as 'Hakea Wine Moth' as the larvae feed specifically on Hakea sp.
Other common names include 'Grevillea Looper' and 'Pink Bellied Moth'
