African Paradise Flycatcher

Terpsiphone viridis

Description:

The African Paradise Flycatcher is a noisy bird with a harsh scolding call. It has short legs and sits very upright whilst perched prominently, like a shrike. It is insectivorous, often hunting by flycatching.

Habitat:

The African Paradise Flycatcher is a common resident breeder in Africa south of the Sahara Desert. This species is usually found in open forests and savannah habitats. Two or three eggs are laid in a tiny cup nest in a tree.

Notes:

Spotted on a branch of an avocado tree in our backyard during my first week in Tanzania.

@letermagog: Interestingly, I was lying on a hammock one lazy Sunday afternoon (as always with my camera) when this paradise flycatcher happen to hop in our avocado tree. Good thing he was on a good mood that day and posed for me :)

Thanks, Cosgey. They're common also in our area and they usually hang around in avocado trees.
