Description:

Wasp with all red body parts; blue tinted wings; very long antennae; ovipositor about 15mm long; overall about 50mm long including antennae.

Habitat:

Resting in leaves of a Solanaceae in a small suburban nature reserve.

Notes:

A wasp that looks like a red grasshopper.

This one has a fascinating story about orchids mimicking the wasp to attract males as pollenaters. Yours is female.
I saw this one at Churchill NP. You may remember that day.
