Previously posted under plants - seed pods. But this is where the Goldenrod Gall Fly has laid its eggs in the steam of the goldenrod.

Habitat:

Near wooded area, probably more like a meadow.

this is actually a gall formed when the goldenrod gall fly lays her eggs in the stem
