Egyptian Red Fox

Vulpes vulpes aegyptiacus

Description:

We were enjoying a Bedouin dinner in the desert wadi behind my neighborhood when this little fellow decided he wanted our fish! He was not scared of us at all and was quite determined to get the food...but he was unsuccessful.

Habitat:

vegetated wadi - and one that gets a lot of tourist dinners that I'm sure leave leftovers

Notes:

Initially IDed as Ruppell's Sand Fox, but several years later, someone left a comment on my blog explaining it was the Red Fox. Ruppell's Sand Fox has a diagnostic black patch in front of each eye, which this fox doesn't have.

I've just updated the ID. He's still the only one on PN. :-)

Thanks! Yes, those desert ears are cool, aren't they?! So glad to contribute a new species to the project.
