Sparrows in this area can be difficult to ID as there are 3 species, with the females virtually identical, They are Rock, House and Spanish and they do interbreed. The male Rock Sparrow is also like the 3 females! The male House Sparrow most people are familiar with, it has a grey head band with brown each side, but the male Spanish Sparrow has an all brown cap like a tree Sparrow. Much of the distinctive plumage is lost in winter. The result of this is that I am not 100% certain that all these are pure House Sparrows, although one male is fairly certain. Even the experts agree to disagree at times! Due to an apparent lack of streaks on the breast the females are probably all House Sparrows.
