tundra swan

Cygnus columbianus

Description:

smallest of the holarctic swans, they make a whistling sound that lends them the name whistling swan. Rare visitors to the S Oregon Coast. I last saw them about 10 years ago

Habitat:

floodplain

Notes:

This time just 1/2 mile from my home. I could not sneak up on them even with thick brush at the roadside. They began swimming fast long before I could focus the camera

Thank you. I felt fortunate to see them again. Had I had my camera when I went to the store, I"d have had a really nice close up. Hopefully tomorrow
