Little brown skink

Scincella lateralis

Description:

This small skink has a golden to dark brown back with a dark dorsolateral stripe extending from the nostril onto the tail. In some individuals, the stripe is barely noticeable. The dark stripe does not have a light stripe running next to it. The belly is gray, yellow, or white. This skink has smooth, shiny scales and may have black dots on the back. The tail is longer than the length of the head and body. Young lack bright blue tails. (taken from "A Field Guide to Oklahoma's Amphibians and Reptiles")
