Stick bug

Carausius sanguineoligatus

Description:

A male stick bug, stick insect to be exact. Thin and small, about 7 cm. Mostly green, red joints (knees) and tail tip, orange head. Has a pair of long and thin antennas. Very perfectly camouflaged against the plant, I can guess that they were never been noticed before by all those who have walked past the plant.

Habitat:

On a short tree of Rose Cabin, Kundasang, Sabah.

Notes:

I found this insect while searching for some interesting creatures on a short tree. After this one, I found another individual which is much larger and brown in color - the female. The latter knows how to play dead, or it might be really dead ? >>>Map accuracy : 10 m diameter. Thanks to BrunoKneubühler for the species ID, Carausius sanguineoligatus so far is the best match.

Thank you BrunoKneubühler.
It's good to have a phasmid expert on Project Noah.
I agree with the ID Carausius sanguineoligatus because no better ID suits this spotting.
By the way, welcome to the community.

Thanks, but I still consider it small after comparing it to other larger species that I have seen.
