Red Ants

Description:

There were three sizes of ants in the same nest. The largest, nearly 5 times the size of the smallest, I assumed they were soldier ants, although they also were carrying heavy loads of food. The medium size ants stumbled and fell but managed to carry the heavy burden to their nest.

The leafcutter ants in the photos are carrying plant matter and seeds to the nest in order to grow a special fungus that leafcutter ants eat.
