Boat-tailed grackle female

Quiscalus major

Description:

Appears to be some sort of grackle. I originally thought it was a female boat-tailed grackle but seeing the blue on the feathers I wonder if it is a male or another grackle type altogether. Well that's what it turned out to be - a female boat-tailed grackle.

Habitat:

Along an inland fresh-water canal.

Notes:

There are a few male boat-tailed grackles in the area but I had not seen any females return until today when I thought this might be one. But most females are more brown in color.

It is a female Boat-tailed. The extra blue coloration could just be a trick of the light as this species and many other blackbirds have iridescence on their plumage that shifts according to the angle and brightness when viewed.
