Dendroica pinus
These birds have white bellies, white wing bars, dark legs and thin, relatively long pointed bills; they have yellowish lines over their eyes. Adult males have olive upper parts and bright yellow throats and breasts; females and immatures display upper parts which are olive-brown. Their throats and breasts are paler. The song of this bird is a musical trill. Their calls are slurred chips. They forage slowly on tree trunks and branches by poking their bill into pine cones. These birds also find food by searching for it on the ground. These birds mainly eat insects, seeds, berries and suet. They are the only warbler that eats large quantities of seeds, primarily those of pines. Their nests are deep open cups made of grass, pine needles, twigs, and plant fibers bound together with spider web or caterpillar silk, lined with fine plant parts, hair and feathers. They place their nests near the end of a tree branch, preferably high in a pine tree.
Their breeding habitats are open pine woods in eastern North America

awesome ..
Thank you, Karen!
Lovely series!
Thanks, Donna. I make my own (vegetarian) suet and it seems to be very tasty. Those feeding on it include chicadees, grackles, bluejays, goldfinches (very occasionally but they prefer the thistleseed), bluebirds, pine warblers, yellow-rumped warblers, cardinals, Carolina wrens....it is so much fun seeing them (and will make it easy to spot several species this weekend for the Great Backyard Bird Count). :>)
Stunning bird and photos! I seem to only get starlings and an occasional chickadee at my suet feeders. Now I have feeder envy.
Thank you, Small Wonders. They are such sweet colorful birds!
Beautiful series!
