Pongo pygmaeus
A young Bornean Orangutan looks on in wonder and curiosity - Borneo, Indonesia - 2014
Spotted in the Bornean Jungle in Kalimantan, Indonesia.
Orang=people ; hutan=forest --> In the Malay language, orangutans are the people of the forest. Yet the forests orangutans depend on for survival are disappearing at an alarming rate. Palm Oil Plantations are a major threat to orangutan habitat and survival. Learn more about the links between orangutans and palm oil, and how to help, here: http://wwf.panda.org/about_our_earth/abo... for more info.

Thank you so much Bhagya Herath!
Vinny - Yes, there current predicament is a very sad one. But many people are working hard to improve their population dynamics and to end conflict between people and orangutans in Borneo! :)
No, this was not a captive orangutan, Scott Frazier! I will change the info under the "Habitat" and "Notes" sections (although let it be known that Habitat is not the same as Location, by any means!).
Oh God those innocent eyes... so lovely....
Is this a captive? Please use "Habitat" to describe the actual location of your spotting. See "What do I put in the fields" here http://www.projectnoah.org/faq The information currently under habitat could be moved to "notes". Thanks. See my spotting of this species http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/306...
Sad that traditional people recognised them as people of the forest but they are shot by farmers and poached for pets in 'modern' times.
