Leonotis leonurus

Description:

Medium evergreen shrub (1-2m) blooming constantly in warm climates. Member of the Lamiaceae or Mint family. Leaves and flowers were traditionally used by Southern African cultures for a variety of ailments.

Habitat:

Native to South Africa. Plant prefers a warm Mediterranean climate. Adapted to dry and sunny conditions.

Notes:

Leonotis leonurus has long been used in African traditional medicine for fevers, headaches, dysentery, flu, chest infections, epilepsy, constipation, delayed menstruation, intestinal worms, spider bites, scorpion stings, hypertension and snakebites. Externally, it is often used for hemorrhoids, eczema, skin rashs and boils.
