This is the champion of all finches but a threatened species in the wild. Fortunately it is common in breeding programs. John Gould was England's champion Ornithologist and taught Charles Darwin the significance of "Darwin's finches" in the Galapagos Islands. A fitting name for this superb bird.

How wonderful. I hope someday to visit Australia! It was the 1st time for me. Gouldian Finches are stunning. I was at the National Aviary. They rescue injured birds and have many threatened and endangered birds. A beautiful place :)
