Differential Grasshoppers Mating

Melanoplus differentialis

Description:

Family: Acrididae. Subfamily: Melanoplinae. Genus: Melanoplus. Mating. Length: Adult males: 28-37 mm. Adult females: 34-50 mm. Coloring: Brownish or greenish and darkens with age. Black groves on the pronotum. Male has boot-like appendages at the end of its abdominal tip.

Habitat:

Meadow with abundant plants.

Notes:

Do not recommend handling during mating. Female gave me a really hard bite. No ill effect. Biting in photo.
