Coluber constrictor priapus
Scaly and black with a white jaw. It was laying in the warm sun on the black-top road. I stopped the car and snapped a few pictures. I've never seen a black racer before. The tail was shaking as if agitated and if it had a rattler I would have heard it for sure. So I didn't stay long.
I spotted this snake in a very sparsely populated area between Gainesville and Alachua, FL. The black racer can be found in wooded areas of grass, trees and bushes. They also burrow and swim too.
