Painted Frogfish

Antennarius pictus

Description:

This Painted Frogfish - Antennarius pictus is seen with its mouth open, sometimes divers described this as yawn. Frogfishes are favourite subject for underwater macro photographers as they can be difficult to find due to their camouflage. They don't moves much, making it very easy to take close-up pictures of them. However, if you have the patience and spend more time with them, they may not like the attention and will open their mouth as captured in this picture as a way to tell you to buzz off! lol

What a fantastic series of shots! Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated Albert!
