Turkey Vulture

Cathartes aura

Description:

The Turkey vulture is a scavenger and feeds almost exclusively on carrion. It finds its food using its keen eyes and sense of smell, flying low enough to detect the gasses produced by the beginnings of the process of decay in dead animals.

Habitat:

Found in a tropical forest in northern Colombia.

Notes:

This is the first time I see this species of vulture. I thought the black vulture and andean condor were the only ones that occurs in Colombia. When we saw them we started searching for a dead animal and unfortunately it was a Colombian red howler monkey.
