Trichilogaster gall.
Some sort of gall growing on the flower heads of Acacia longifolia. The little knobbly bits are the flowers are trying to push through.
Wildlife corridor just off the beach in Phillip Island.

Thanks john. Really appreciate your help when you pop in to Projectnoah!
Is that an Acacia?
This could be a Trichilogaster gall.

At least a couple of species of Trichilogaster are being used as biological control agents for invasive Acacias in South Africa.
