Description:

Vibrant, reddish purple fruiting bodies that were 5-10 mm wide. They varied from irregularly-shaped to disc-shaped.

Habitat:

Growing on rotting wood in a deciduous forest.

Notes:

This fungus contains the bioactive, antibiotic compound ascocorynin, which has been shown to inhibit the growth of several Gram-positive bacteria.
