(From Wikipedia), Oxya velox is one of short-horned grasshoppers, the grasshopper is an insect of the suborder Caelifera in the order Orthoptera. These are scientific classification of grasshopper, Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Arthropoda Class: Insecta Order: Orthoptera Family: Laridae suborder: Caelifera Taxonomy: Grasshoppers have antennae that are generally shorter than their body and short ovipositors. They also have pinchers or mandibles that cut and tear off food. Those species that make easily heard noises usually do so by rubbing the hind femurs against the forewings or abdomen, or by snapping the wings in flight. Tympana, if present, are on the sides of the first abdominal segment. The hind femora are typically long and strong, fitted for leaping. Generally they are winged, but hind wings are membranous while front wings are coriaceous and not fit for flight. Females are normally larger than males, with short ovipositors.

Habitat:

Grasshoppers are around in the world that areas with many grasses. Grasshoppers prefer to eat grasses, leaves and cereal crops.

Yong is my student, and I had him send me the originals of these photographs before letting him upload them, so I could check the EXIF data. It is a fantastic picture, and I had no idea he was such a good photographer, so I admit that I had my doubts when he first showed me the picture.

But the time, date, exposure, and other camera data in the EXIF information was consistent. Also, just to be certain, I did a Google Image Search for similar images and found none that matched.

I am reasonably convinced that he took this photograph.
