Willet

Tringa semipalmata

Description:

Willets have beautifully patterned wings which only become evident when they are in flight. Willet populations declined sharply due to hunting in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Their numbers have increased again since then but they are still considered at risk, especially in light of continued habitat loss.

Habitat:

Topsail Island

Hola Patty! Thanks for your comment; it is always good news to hear that a species has come back from the edge since we so often hear about species that are added to the endangered lists.

Great series María and nice to hear that their number has increased despite of the risks they still run....Greetings
