Tussock moth

Lymantriidae Calliteara horsfieldii

The mature caterpillar was about 40 mm / 1.5 inches long. The dark neck band was a dark reddish-purple color.

Found as a mature caterpillar on an Acacia tree at Braemar Hill, North Point, Hong Kong on December 6, 1998. Another specimen on its foodplant, Evodia lepta, in the same area on December 20, 1998, but it turned out to have been parasitized by flies. A nearly mature larva found on April 26, 2002 in Shau Kei Wan was feeding on Ficus .

I found it in the school's garden while i was picture-hunting.It was eating happily on the leaf.
