Queensnake

Regina septemvittata

Description:

Olive to brownish-gray body with a yellow belly and stripe on the face. Keeled scales.

Habitat:

Small stream under an old railroad trestle.

Notes:

This species feeds almost exclusively on freshly molted crayfish so they are dependent on their food supply. Crayfish need fairly clean unpolluted water to survive as do the queensnakes.
