Larus fuscus
Common across Europe, the Lesser Black-backed Gull is an uncommon, but regular visitor to eastern North America.Nearly all individuals that reach North America are of the graellsii subspecies that breeds in Iceland, Britain, and western Europe. Breeds on tundra, along coasts, and on islands in lakes and larger rivers. Winters along coastal regions, bays, estuaries, along lakes and rivers, and at garbage dumps
A first spotting for me. It was a great sight to see this nonbreeding adult. I saw it way down the beach this morning as it stood out from all the smaller / paler grey Ring-billed Gulls that were there. Once I got close it turned out to be a very friendly and patient poser. So here's just a sample of the many many photos it aloud me to take.
