Monarch Butterfly

Danaus plexippus

Description:

The butterfly has orange, black and white wings, with a wingspan of 3.5 - 4 inches.

Habitat:

Habitat changes throughout the year, but during mating season they can be found anywhere that there are hosting plants (milkweed is necessary for laying eggs and the life of the caterpillar).

Notes:

I planted two milkweed plants last year hoping to help in the conservation efforts to save these beautiful butterflies. This year several plants grew and provided a sanctuary for numerous butterflies - helping with the success of the monarch life cycle.
