Florida cottonmouth

Agkistrodon piscivorus conanti

Description:

This is a juvenile Florida cottonmouth, Agkistrodon piscivorus conanti -- a much-aligned and very much misunderstood venomous snake found in the North American southeast. Contrary to popular stories, cottonmouths aren't actually aggressive. Rather, they are simply quite determined to get where they want to go and they will protect themselves if and when they feel cornered or threatened (as most animals are prone to do). A lovely youngster, this one was. [janson jones http://dusttracks.com]
