A large clump of chocolate coloured mushrooms arranged like candelabra on the base and around a dead tree trunk (probably a eucalypt). The caps were smooth and dome shaped with some older mushrooms having a depressed centre. The colour was uniform on the caps. Gills were creamy brown with spaced gills. There was a brown powdery look to some of the gills ?cystidia. The stipe was plain and a pale brown.
damp eucalyptus forest
I thought that these might be Coprinellus sp but the caps were fairly firm to touch and the mushrooms did not look delicate. There were no linear markings on the caps either. Could someone please confirm this ID - thaks.

Thanks pouihi - will delete tentative ID and keep looking...
No prob, trying to identify a mushroom is always a good challenge! If it were Mycena sp it should have withe spores.
LBM means little brown mushrooms which may be a bit hard to identify on account of being so many, similar yet different species.
Pouihi, thanks for checking this spotting and for your comments. Yes, the powdery substance on the gills were a dark brown. I hope you are able to ID this for me. Thanks - what are LBMs ??
I'm guessing that brown powdery look on the gills would be some spore deposit, if this is the case, Mycena should not be a choice.
Was it dark brown?
LBMs are very hard to identify!
