Sign In to followMr. Goldfish. I googled for Statilia maculata images and I feel that you are absolutely spot on. The pigmentations on the raptorial fore-legs matches perfectly. I shall edit it asap. Thank you very much.
Thank you Leuba and Tristan for the ID.. very much appreciated. :)
Thank you all. :) It was rescued from one of the shops in our village.
@ Ingrid3, it is just looking out for a way to escape the paparazzi with the camera. This posture (open hooded) by cobra is usually in self defense... saying Back Off before it strikes. also associated by loud hissing.
Thank you Yasser for making it SOTD :) Thank you everyone who wished me well.
Frederic Ansermoz, I took the pic at the release site. :)
Busy killing Kraits. :)
Thank you Ava... i have added the wikipedia link along with the spotting. cheers.
Wonderful pic of this beautiful snake Karthik. I have never come across this beauty in the North Kanara distt. Maybe its not the distribution range?
Please consider sharing your awesome snake pics on the following mission.

Hi Malcolm Wilton Jones, Thank you for informing me regarding the importance of one upload - one species thing. I understand and have edited this to one species name and have named the other in the description part. :) Cheers.
:) MaxMacLennan, we actually have a very wrong notion of these snakes always ready to bite someone or the other. The truth is they strike only in self defense or when we move too close into their comfort zone. Most snakes prefer to just slither away in opposite direction when approached by any thing other than their prey or mate.
thank you everyone. :)
