Spectacular insect, one of my favorites.
Definitely a Junco, the Gray-headed appears to be the closest match due to the lack of black around the eyes and the location I found it in. Thanks a ton for the suggestions.
Thank you for the suggestion. Upon closer viewing it seemed to resemble a California sister more closely. Several subspecies exist in the southwest.
It definitely seems to lean towards the black-chinned and yes, I can't believe I had the opportunity to join in on such an event, especially given the location.
