JudyCrawford Sharp Shinned Hawk
Sharp Shinned Hawk commented on by JudyCrawford Arizona, USA12 years ago

Actually, it got lured in by all the quail, dove and other yard birds at the feeders. Didn't get a meal, but stayed for a drink and a bath. How many people get to watch a hawk take a bath in the wild?

Lovely snake. If you read my post, you probably can tell I'm partial to the snakes of the AZ desert.

JudyCrawford Sacred Datura
Sacred Datura commented on by JudyCrawford Tucson, Arizona, USA12 years ago

We only see Datura flowers here in Quartzsite, AZ if there has been quite a bit of rain. Maybe Tucson received more rain this year than we did.

The Native Americans often used the Sacred Datura in their rituals... very carefully. Is it really blooming there now?

Such a prehistoric looking critter.

JudyCrawford Phainopepla
Phainopepla commented on by JudyCrawford Arizona, USA12 years ago

No, they don't have a common name. The word Phainopepla comes from the Greek for "shining robe". It is a very pretty shiney black when the sun is on it.
