@jgorneau - a moth fly is not really a moth, it is a fly that simply resembles a moth. Doesn't really belong in a Moth mission.

This is a skipper butterfly, family Hesperiidae.
It is a Penstemon (common name: beardtongue), though I'm not sure which species.
Looks like a male Megachile sp. to me.
I wasn't smashing it. It was trying to hop away so I was holding it securely but gently. It was released after the photo and was not harmed.
