Definitely a rain spider nest. Check my spottings, I have one of mom guarding the nest. She may have been on the back side of yours where you couldn't see her. She would not move unless threatened. Spiderlings remain inside until 1st moult and then move out.

Hi Shelley, yes thats a honey badger I'm cuddling. His name is BG, he was handraised at the Johannesburg Zoo where I volunteer. He is very friendly, but can be very very naughty when he wants to be. Quite a privilege to have such a personal experience with an incredible animal.
