Just down Highway 121 business from I-35E in the eastern part of Lewisville is a special place that should be shared with your kids. It is the Lewisville Independent School District Outdoor Learning Area. LISDOLA is an eighty-acre tract of land located on the south side of Lake Lewisville Dam in Denton County. The landscape boasts wetlands, forests, fields, rivers and streams and contains approximately five miles of hiking trails. It provides teachers, students and visitors with an outdoor, hands-on-educational experiences. There is a small parking lot near the trail head just off Fish Hatchery Road. LISDOLA is typically open during the school year for school field trips as well as other groups such as scouts. Just be sure to call ahead and make arrangements. In addition to great trails, there is also an indoor classroom area, restrooms and a water pond area. Watch calendars for events held there or volunteer to go when your child’s class has the opportunity. It is well worth the trip.
