Upper Ferntree Gully Primary School is located in the Dandenong Ranges roughly 40 kilometres east of Melbourne, Australia. Being surrounded by national parks, state forests and nature reserves (which include environments ranging from dense rain forest through open, dry sclerophyll eucalyptus to open grasslands) there is an abundance of varied wildlife throughout the seasons. Records might include birds, mammals, reptiles, insects, spiders, plants and fungi. Many animals might appear only after school hours like possums, bats or night birds and many arthropods are attracted to the school at night by the strong security lights.
