Wildlife at Maymont

Wildlife at Maymont

While you are visiting Maymont, note the animals that are not in captivity. Take a photo and upload it to the mission. This will help us better understand what wildlife species are utilizing the grounds. Please do not take pictures of animals on exhibit like black bears, bobcat, grey fox, or goats on exhibit. If there is a sign about the species on display, the animal is there to help visitors understand more, and therefore, it is not an animal that should be recorded in the mission. However, you may see turtles in the bear exhibit or see white-tailed deer on the grounds outside of the Sika deer exhibit. These are the animals we want to record as being present or frequenting Maymont. Sign in to join mission

Maymont is an American estate with 100-acres of green space located along the James River in Richmond, VA. The property is home to hundreds of non-releasable animals representing native wildlife species of Virginia. Because of the location, Maymont has non-captive wildlife living within and around the grounds. The purpose of this mission is to identify those species and record the information for future studies and research opportunities.
