Fishes of Kentucky
Anyone who can identify a fish or take a picture can provide this mission with valuable distribution data and provide insight into which areas of Kentucky are most diverse or in greatest peril.
When taking photographs of fish, be sure to get a good lateral shot with a clear view of dorsal, pectoral, and caudal (tail) fins. Photographs accurately showing color are also helpful.Provide as much detail about the habitat of the fish as possible. Follow all local laws when collecting fish for photos. No captive fish/aquarium fish please.

"With more than 90,000 miles of rivers, streams and creeks throughout the state, Kentucky boasts 244 species of native freshwater fish, making it the third most diverse state for native fish populations in the nation. "
- The Nature Conservancy
With the staggering number of native fish in this vast amount of aquatic habitat, maintaining a database of fish species and location will be important for their conservation in the commonwealth.
Using the power of Project Noah, this mission will serve to document native fish locations throughout the state and assist those who need help with identification. Data collection at this scale by Citizen Scientists can provide researchers with a lifetime's worth of distribution data.
