Bird Skull

Notes:

Birds tend to hide away in some small corner when they sense they are going to die. This was found under some debris in my garden today. Possibly an American Robin by the size?

No, but I do remember comparing at the time with a live robin and some photos and thinking that is my best guess. For some reason, I didn't bring this one in and save it:(
Thanks for the link. I will check it out and then keep it handy!

You might be spot on about a robin. I found a great link for comparison and it does look a lot like your spotting. http://www.skullsite.com/completelist/sp... Do you remember the dimensions of the skull you found?

That's an interesting idea Emily. If it is a jay, it would be a Stellar's Jay (Cyanocitta stelleri) rather than a blue jay. I see the Stellar's Jay is 1 1/" inches longer in overall length than the robin. Both do nest in my gardens. I had Steller's Jays build a nest in a covered platform bird feeder that I had. Of course, the crows stole the nestlings almost as soon as they hatched.

What about a blue jay? That is what I was leaning toward due to size. I am guessing in all honesty. I will look up a robin skull for comparison!

Hi Emily. No, it was too small for a corvid. The leaf it is sitting on is from a Big Leaf Maple. I think this was an American Robin skull but I am not sure enough to give it that ID.

How big was the skull?! Looks like it could almost be a corvid of some kind.
