Description:

This is a 3+ foot high shrub. It has red beries and small dark green spiny leaves.

Habitat:

This plant has a limited range in the US Southwest. This one was spotted at Torrey Pines Reserve on bluffs overlooking the Pacific.

Notes:

The berries were used for food by Native American inhabitants of this region. And that's Ranger Cindy Bingham-Keiser's hand for scale in the last picture.
