Milkweed Tussock Moth

Euchaetes egle

Description:

These caterpillars are gregarious during first 3 instars. Cream colored bodies, with tufts of orange, white, and black "fur". Defoliated entire leaves.

Habitat:

Found on Aslepias tuberosa (butterfly weed) in my flower bed.

Notes:

They get much "cuter" in the latter instars. I call them the "poodles" of the caterpillar world. They have an almost robotic way of moving, very interesting to watch. Also known as the Milkweed Tiger Moth.
