There are just two species of lotus (or Nelumbo sp). Nelumbo nucifera IS native to Queensland but the undersides of the leaves aren't red (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nelumbo_nuc... ). I think this is a water lily, family Nymphaeaceae ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nymphaeacea... ) and it may not necessarily be native.
