Egretta thula
This small egret is about 61 cm (24 in) in length. The bill is long, slender, and black. Legs are black with bright yellow toes (juveniles have yellow stripes running down the back of the legs). Adults have a yellow mask which turns red during the breeding season.
Wetlands and ponds. They nest in large wetlands from the lower US Midwest, east to the US east coast and south to the Gulf Coast and into South America Great Lakes and southwestern United States to South America. They nest in colonies and often associate with other large wading birds.
